Calm-down by nebezial Calm-down by nebezial
before anything else.. i do apologize for the ranty chaotic nature of this description. i do better when writing comics than writing my own thoughts on something. call it a chaotic mind of someone to whom english is a second language XD

i make fun of dc... i do. their decisions baffle me so often. but i joke because i love XD

what is it with dc doing things that gets completely taken out of context?...yes, dc made stupid decision...aaaa lot of them... but just gotta love the remove context button being used on articles recently

2 latest ones are..

1: Dc creators left because dc forbids lesbian marriage...

Bombastic...sure...makes one of the 2 big companies look yeah!

weeelllll... technically they simply don't want marriage. tis not a homophobic decision... it is a marriage-o-phobic decision.

hell... one more day anyone?... it is not really news, big 2 don't like their heroes being married.

again.. is it a stupid decision? yes!
does it lack any vision and trust in the capabilities of creators writing good stories about married heroes? of course...

homophobia driven? i really don't think so
of course there were other reasons for the creative team leaving..but they weren't that important to be in the titles XD

super hero marriages are a touchy subject for big 2. have been for a while now as you can see in this fun article…
one correction to the article would be that not even aquaman and mera are married anymore.…

update..apparently batwoman couldn't get married because bat people need f%&ked up family lives... XD…

now, the latest one is the harley quinn contest thing.

i read the script...
without context...effin horrible
timing of it all..holy hell atrocious... a few days before suicide awareness week...yikes

but the angle that s taken by articles.. "draw suicidal Harley naked, get a job at dc"... aaa little forced

if you investigate , you quickly learn that the page in question is about harley imagining what kind of stupid situations the creators might put her in. hence the requirement of her "are you f$%ing kidding me?" expression.

in this case this was meant to be a part of a looney tunes styled slapstick comedy

i have seen a lot of series using failed suicide shtick for comedic effect... we all have.. it is not a new thing it has been used in cartoons, comics and movies to the point that it's a damn near trope by now
no... really…

i can tell you this. any half mature artist knows how to draw her naked in the bathtub scene without showing ...well..anything

the idiocy in it all is that it was a stupid choice of a page that really relies heavily on context to be used out of it
(context being that this is her imagining how badly she might be treated by the creators)

the bigger idiocy was posting a page of 4 panels of her basically displaying suicidal behavior... just before suicide prevention week

about that... outrage is justified.

dc has had a bad history in mistreating their female characters in recent rebooting... so outrage does have a strong foundation of empiric proof not all characters not all the time... but when they messed up they messed up over the top

point i am trying to make is this

there is a chain of incompetence at work here. bad decisions made by people inexplicably capable of keeping an impressive combo of fuckups. this incompetence is worth the anger and outrage.

as such as readers we should demand with our wallets to show our opinion
place the right blame at the right people for the right reason. we have more than enough reasons without trying to make up new ones

these stories aren't about homophobia or some snuff fetish...they are about incompetence. outrage as such would be more measured in the form of not buying the books than threatening dc employees with violence (this happened)…

there are genuine problems in the industry that could use a good discussion...but thing about discussions is.. they can only be done when people stop shouting XD

DC has been on the downslope since the New 52's, Marvel is like that little kid in the Christmas Story, who's afraid to go down the slide, and is holding on tight but keeps slowly slipping. I don't understand what's the beef with Marriage in Superheroes... psh they have kids out of wedlock, which I have nothing against, but you know it'd be nice to see someone have a marriage maybe even have them get divorced down the line who knows. Keepin it real.  As a female I'm also pretty peeved about DC and their opinions of the female fan base. It's like HEY! You make cool action stories with HOT DUDES, with incredible personalities and Bad Ass bitches that we all wanna be! Sorry you're not allowed to like them.

Not to mention canceling all those comics with the less known heroes after 12 or 18  issues. My sister is a big fan of Blue Beetle and now what, it's gone. What was this point of the relaunch? I thought it was to make some of these older stories more available to the new crowd of comic lovers? -cough...

I read better fan fiction than half the stuff that comes up lately. Sometimes I just want to kick DC's top people in the balls then curl up in a little ball and cry.

And give Harley Quinn a little more dignity PALEASE! DC. Which includes clothes.
Stick-bag Featured By Owner Dec 28, 2013
Yeah, I'm with this. One of my biggest pet peeves about Marvel and DC is their attitude to married superhero couples, or at least ones in a happy relationship. Another is characters that are never, EVER allowed to be happy, even for a while, without it being twisted in some horrible way. Prime examples of this are Batman, Spiderman and of course the Hulk. For the latter, how else do you explain just about every story involving Red She-Hulk?

Some further info on this topic (man do I miss Harley's old outfit, so much better than the crap she wears now). Here's what George Perez has had to say on the subject after leaving Superman. He was very frustrated poor guy. You really shouldnt treat a legend of the industry like that but the Hollywood model which has taken over the Big 2 of making decisions via committee is just a HORRIBLE way to get anything done.

DC has lost their mind in many ways. I was mortified hearing of the contest regarding Harley Quinn's Suicide contest..
Yes she love the joker but she is also a Classic Borderline personality with psychopathic tendencies..
borderlines who kill people don't kill themselves, they turn on their obsession and the focus of their attention..
It's like they never read a psych textbook..

You can question the HQ PR, but i have this small question: Maybe everything with HQ was on purpose? She is one of the charakters, who scratch the fourth wall. Maybe the suicide idea was choosen to make the suicide prevention week more puplic? How many people didnt know about this week before?
On another note: The new HQ got some beef for being "whore-ific". Together with the knowledge, that Amanda Conner is part of the new HQ-team, i got the feeling, it is some sort of comic relief.
Maybe i am to generous, but i think it is a viable interpretation.

edit: and of course DC wasnt homophobic, but marriage-o-phobic. :(

Ive been so disappointed with the Big 2 that I havent collected a series from them in years. Oddly part of that decision was due to them hating marriage. The One More Day storyline made me drop Spiderman (my favorite character) for the second time in over 35 years of reading Spiderman. The first time you might guess was the Clone Saga, dropped the book for about 5 years because of that. While Im all for change, I want intelligently guided change, not what can we do to fuck up our characters like some horribly written soap opera. Thank God for the indie comics out there and of course manga where folks still seem to care about both their characters and their readers.

Note Im not faulting the creators here (in most cases) but the people in charge who seem to be following the Holloywood model of how to make terrible movies by committee but applying it to comics.

"as such as readers we should demand with our wallets to show our opinion"
"there are genuine problems in the industry that could use a good discussion...but thing about discussions is.. they can only be done when people stop shouting XD"

I am afraid I will have to respectfully disagree with that. If people stop buying the product, DC isn't going to understand why they're not buying it. All they will see is that these comics aren't making as much money as others and that will send a creepy message that readers don't want comics about characters like Harley Quinn. Potentially having the result of those comics being canceled. And that's overall BAD for us.

However, if we hoot and holler and cause a loud whiny tantrum... they will take notice and do everything in their power to quell it. Public opinion matters to big corporations and none of them want to be seen as "the bad guys." This has been proven to work numerous times in the past. It worked on Mass Effect 3 when the ending was sub-par. It worked when Microsoft announced the backwards consumer unfriendly X-Box One. When the internet throws a tantrum with such volume that media outlets start reporting about it, DC will know what they did wrong and will try to correct it.

While "voting with your wallets" is a nice pie-in-the-sky idealistic concept, I don't see it actually working. Not in this day and age of mass communication. I just see it potentially damaging a product that consumers simply want a better version of. From the evidence I've seen thus far, throwing a whiny tantrum (as much as it might piss some people off) has been much more successful than an outright boycott.
Mukos Featured By Owner Feb 4, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
To be honest, the new mass effect ending is still sub-par. It was just bad the 1st time - the players were expected to leap to conclusion and thus became the indoctrination theory, very loose ends, no satisfying explanation whatsoever...I believe you know the rest.
