May I ask you something Nebezial? With Twitchblade are you planning to do to Witchblade what Bruce Timm/Paul Dini did for DC universe (Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Justice League, Batman Beyond etc)? Make a brand new universe that is both faithful to the source material yet at the same time does it's own thing that welcomes newcomers (like myself since I never read Witchblade before) of all ages and longtime fans alike?
Been looking through your gallery, and, well, Twitch is basically everything I wished Withcblade would be. It has so much potential and it's all wasted to showcase as much T&A as possible. Thank you for giving me this alternative.
With all those previous bearers of the witchblade being possible co-pilots and able to interact with her mentally I'm surprised Mary got that far at all. XD
Policemen: "So Miss you say this car-accident happened because the voices in your head said to drive right and left at the same time?" Mary: "Yes, uh no, actually only two of them, the rest was screaming about black magic and horseless carriages"
TWitch coul basically be a Devil May Cry (or Darksiders 2/God of War/ Bayonetta/Prototype) like Game, basically a Score-centric Brawler/Action Adventure;
Una: Closest Range, Slow Speed, Medium to High Damage, Special: Medium-ish Damage Ground Shatter AoE, (High Damage Intake) The Monk Lady: Closest Range, High Speed, Low-ish Damage, Special:Stuns and Knockback on Everyone, (Medium Damage Intake Hilde: Medium to Long Range, Slooooow Speed, Hiigh Damage, Special: High Damage/Medium Range Whirlwind AoE (Low Damage intake) Minako: Medium Range, High Speed, Low Damage, Stealthy silent,Special: Decapitation in a straight Line forward, medium Range, in a 3m band (Medium Damage intake) Spear Lady: Long Range, Medium Speed, Medium Damage, Special: Impaling a Straight thin line of Enemies (High Damage intake) Anne Bonny/ Jill Sparrow: Close Range, High Speed, Medium Damage, Special: Killing up to 3 Enemies with a Flintlock, causing bleeding effect on 3 more (Medium Damage intake) The Pharaoh-ess: Depends on Weapon, maybe a Javelin or even a Slingshot or Bow Zala: high-ish Range, Medium Speed, Medium Damage(Lots of Bleeding Damage) Special: Spikes, Eyes and tentacles, Oh My! (medium Damage intake) Imani: Rangest(longest) Range, Slow Speed, Low Damage, Also stealthy Silent, Special: Half of a Group of Enemies is Instakilled Cowgirl-Lady: Basically like Ebony and Ivory in Devil may Cry, Special: Every Enemy gets a "Cowboy standoff" where a QTE decides how many you kill Ultimate: Like Chaos/ Reaper Form in Darksiders 1/2 with Mary Armoring up like [link] and owning shit
Bosses would be: Lady Pendragon, Bloodsword, Tony(weird "oh, you're actually not an Enemy" moment), Mordred, Mary's "Mom"(the Angel?), Random giganteous demons and Angels, etc.
Are they not giving you enough time to create something more fully rendered? I'm not trying to sound like a dick but that happens in comics. The figures are lacking form because there are no highlights, textures, etc. You are one of my favorite artists, so I want to emphasize that this is in no way an insult because I know that you are more than capable of taking these to the next level. I am honestly just curious as to where this "style" comes from...is it a stringent deadline...lack of ambition? To me it looks like "fancy flats" that are just begging for a couple extra layers of detail. Maybe fans who are just easily impressed wouldn't notice or those who only care about the story but for me It's all about the art in a book and these just seem unfinished... I don't think that is a rude thing to say because its kind of true. There are parts of the images in this series that are so detailed and creative but I feel unsatisfied as a viewer because of the lack of rendering...anyways I hope you don't take this the wrong way, again I'm a big fan of your amazing work.
Thank you for the thoughtful response! You are definitely an inspiration. The more I look at your collection of twitch art I feel the more it is growing on me. I am still clinging to the more detailed parts that really attract the eye. I really like the technique that you use for hair and armour details which I think is "stroked" so that it looks outlined. That is a pretty cool approach.
I actually prefer this stylized art over the ultra-hyper-detailed stuff. Twitch has been so gorgeous, quirky, and interesting that it lead me to look into witchblade as a whole. I picked up a GINORMOUS Book of collected Witchblade. It's a great read, and alot of the art is beautiful, but it hasn't really hooked me like your Twitch work has. I really, really want to own Issues and TPBs of this.
btw, ordered Ravine 1, waiting for it to wing it's way in. I'm looking forward to reading it, since what i've seen of it here has been pretty awesome.
believe it or not, an iteration of this was my original first style, but in order to get into the comic industry back in the day i had to do what noone else could at that time, and that is to do a monthly painted comic.
now that i am in, however, i will finally be able to do some comics in my true style so twitch will be one of several comic i have planned
