Remember when Wonder Woman was a symbol of female empowerment and independence? Those were the days... F*ck you D.C.
kslayer90 Featured By Owner Apr 3, 2015
read the new 52 Wonder Woman series then try saying that. Just cause shes not banging the character you prefer doesn't make her less of a woman.
DragonCount Featured By Owner Apr 4, 2015  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Mmhm, and the Amazons being thieving, raping murderers. Because sexual violence makes it mature! :P

Also what the hell are you getting at with "not banging the character you prefer"? The only reason they paired Wondy with Superman is because they think girls only like crappy romance stories akin to Twilight and the fact they're the strongest of their respective genders, the most shallow reason to pair to characters together. What was wrong with Superman being in love with Lois Lane? If Wonder Woman wants to be in a relationship, make it with someone with whom its makes a lick of sense, like a member of her supporting cast, or actually develop the relationship based on more than the superpowers. The D.C. Animated Universe did it much better with Wonder Woman having an interest in Batman, because they took time to develop it.
kslayer90 Featured By Owner Apr 6, 2015
The reason they paired the two is because they wanted to give the characters a new story which is good for sales as more people will read something they haven't before rather than pay for one that has been told 100x over. Superman/Wonder Woman had alot of build up for their relationship, read the JL, WW and Superman's comics and find out yourself how they ended up together and trust me the "your strong" line had no impact on them getting together hell when they first met they were at each others throats. You simply watched JL War and have based your whole opinion of this pairing on that instead of the source material which is shallow.

As for the pairing, LL is a shallow bitch, she wants Superman but knows nothing personal about him and doesn't give a time of day to CK, when Clark found out how she viewed (a loner) and stated she can't see herself in a relationship with him that summed it up really. She wants to be with Superman but he doesn't want Lois to date him as Superman as it would give his enemies a target but he was open to dating her as Clark who has no enemies and she burned that bridge down personally.

Diana had a relationship with Steve but she wasn't in love with him as he was with her and after he was kidnapped and nearly killed because he is close to her she decided to end it because she saw how hurt his family was over what happened and blamed her, she ended the relationship and got Steve removed from his position as the JL liaison. This is when the pairing started, WW was feeling alone and depressed over this and Superman who had gone through this with Lois empathized with her and they ended up kissing (this is the alone and not like them scene in the dark from JL Atlantis) this was followed by Superman trying to build something with her, she did start enjoying time with him and they got close. That is how this pairing got started and their is nothing shallow about it.

As for the idea they should pair with people from their own supporting cast I say this, why do that again. The whole point of a new continuity is to try something else and since the characters are apart of the DC expanded universe make use of the rest of the DC universes characters, Superman and Wonder Woman have been a long time fan favorite that hadn't happened on canon stories so why not make one with them as a couple and give fans what they want, it boosted sales, the stories are good and solid the only fuck up was how the first portrayed it in the animated universe. If your going to sell the new continuity in animations ffs give it a complete series so we can get to know the characters and not rush it.

And how was it then that in the original D.C. Universe Lois Lane and Clark Kent got married?

Also you didn't address that bit about Wonder Woman's people in the New 52 Universe being pillaging rapists. I mean THAT'S what you want to associate with an icon of female empowerment: the strawman model.

First Spider-Man with One More Day, then the D.C. Universe with its sheer stupidity and then Doctor Who with Steven Moffat. It's like everything good in the entertainment industry is being beaten over the head with a baseball bat while being subdued via a garbage bag.
kslayer90 Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2015
Superman & Lois only got married in the comics after the 80's, in the early comics their was no true love pairing between them, ever since Christopher Reeves Superman came out the two of them have always been paired and it leads to marriage and even in the story of Superman 1 million he longs for her 10000 years after her death and once he attains god level powers he brings her back to life, excuse me for considering this bullshit beyond believe. A comic book couple lasts only as long as the readers love it and after 3 decades of Lois and Superman people got bored hell many were bored of it in the last decade especially with female hero characters from other stories that were apart of the DC universe that were a better match for him given that it is natural for a new pairing to be attempted now with a new continuity.

The revamp of Wonder Woman's back story makes Wonder Woman herself deal with lies and deception, this becomes her tragedy (born of Zeus, Hera's wrath on her people and their behavior towards men and the male born amazons) read the comics and see how she handles all this. Wonder Woman in the new 52 shows a well developed female character who is understanding of the world and doesn't simply blame everything on men and think that living in isolation will make paradise, she breaks the traditions that she finds to be barbaric and rebuilds her society into one that doesn't discriminate against a certain gender and continues to fight for peace in the rest of the world. I don't see why her old back story was considered one of female empowerment as it shows a story of a people who for the vile acts of one group labels the whole world as the same and breaks of ties with them and thanks to their prayers to gods (who bring to life every single myth about patriarchy) is somehow a story modern day women can relate too or would fantasize about. This new story starts with a dark back story and it becomes one where a woman changed everything for the better without having to implement radical ideals, she simply voiced simply and logical ideas and brought her people out of the dark ages.

In other words you didn't read Gail Simone's run on Wonder Woman. It was so good that D.C. decided they don't want a well realized character and instead gave us Amazons' Attack.

As if reality isn't terrible enough, let's just make escapism just as awful. How nice that Identity Crisis is the status-quo of comics.

I know the comic I wrote is pretty dark, but at least it isn't as explicit. If D.C. had the ownership of my character Kalma, the Angel of Death, they'd just make him a girl and become a casual rape victim.

But lest we forget, classic WW's only weakness was being tied up by a man and she wore panties, that was waaay worse. If anything, I think she still stands by female empowerment, maybe a little more than the olden years
DragonCount Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2015  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
D.C. editorial decided to pair her with frickin' Superman. And this decision was inspired by Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, so they generalize that all women apparently like something a bunch of idiot teenagers thought was brilliant.

The best years of Wonder Woman were during Gail Simone's run. In fact I dare say she's the best writer at D.C., but given that they fired her from New 52's Batgirl title over an e-mail, it just further cements that D.C.'s run by a bunch of sexist asses. Sure, Simone got her job back due to the massive fan backlash, but I stand by my point. Not to mention they're still employing Scott Lobdell, an arse who sexually harassed a woman DURING A CONVENTION PANEL.
