While the background is incredible along with the AMAZING statue, my gaze falls to the women and I feel a kind of 'meh' overcome me. It's a surprisingly unexpected feeling and took a while of inspecting the painting for me to land on why. After perusing many parts of your gallery and seeing rather intriguing female faces and body types, the most interesting of those featured here is likely the soldier and even she falls into a category of moderate sameness as the others.
It's a strange uniformity which I'm not sure is supposed to represent their particular region or what but they all could be melded into the same person and I'm not sure I'd be able to tell them apart. Then again, I'm still growing in my art so could just be missing something. Still, lovely piece indeed.
Many maidens making music, mildly melancholic, and one gently hold her hands over another's eyes. What could she be thinking? Recalls the "Oath of the Horatii," by David, absolute unconditional loyalty and honor to loved ones and family, even if the consequences are most severe. Beautiful image of a most dignified human trait.
Another beauty of a piece... You know I think my favorite part is the female guardsman standing behind her lady with that contemptous "I hate you, you spoiled bitch" look on her face. It adds a real depth of life to the picture.
Wow, words cannot begin to describe the amazing use of color in the piece! The detail work is amazing and the proportions of the subjects blends great stylizing from classical works but maintains comic art! Whoo!
whoa, this is pretty insane. there is so much stuff... i certainly do love your attention to the human form and the details and variety you have in each persons' faces. your colouring and shading is definitely a favourite and makes this piece stand out in the crowd of thousands. this is one of a kind, and i'm so glad i was able to stumble onto it. :)
