praetorian antheus prayne by nebezial praetorian antheus prayne by nebezial
This is first in a line of character intros for ravine, a comic ill be publishing through top cow in the beginning of 2010

So an introduction is in order

At the age of 19 Antheus was noticed for his masterful handling of a sword, by none other than Khan Shivas.

Antheus thus became the third non Shivas ever to be trained by this warrior race. His formidable skills with the sword grew into stuff of legends. Mastering the seven depths of dark in the ravine of the Aertes cleave he was also the first non Shivas to develop an affliction commonly known as deep eyes.

At the age of 32 he joined the ranks of Paladias army which he had climbed with great speed due to his prowess and fearlesness in battle. It was only a year later that he became the elite paladian knight, a praetorian.

Still the position of kings own bodyguard had proven itself to be a dull job as Paladias mignt rose to the point where it stood unopposed. and so at the first chance of trouble stirring Antheus took up a job of investigating dragon raids made on Paladias teritory.

What started as a simple investigation turned into and adventure of a lifetime

I like the mass of details on the armor -
flexible scales in the movement zones, good.

Looks nice. Love the design of the armour.
OMEGA-CROSSFire Featured By Owner Dec 7, 2012  Student Digital Artist
but wouldn't he dislike wearing armor or wearing less armor (or any at all), since he was being trained by shivas? or is he forced wearing it? XD
nebezial Featured By Owner Dec 7, 2012
he is the first praetorean to the king of paladia... it would look kinda silly for him to stand there in a t shirt XD. there are court protocols, and he never got tha proper shivas blades which are crucial for full performance of the techniques.... never gotten them..yet

Oh my goooood!

Unlike the little touch up of the others, here you have done a total reconversion! xDDD I think that you have added a 3D version of the armor maybe?

I like very much the another version too, had lost forever or you have preserved it?

Best Regards!

his head is so small (although it does make sense)

but couldn't you pretty him up?
ravenrider Featured By Owner Aug 22, 2009
love all the details in the armor

but, it is to perfect, I would love to some damage to it, like he is a true war hero that has been on a lot of battlefields

just my 2 cents ;)
nebezial Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2009
this is not his old battle armor this is his royal elite guard armor, well kept and shiney
NightWish666 Featured By Owner Aug 22, 2009
This armor is breathtaking! TEACH ME MASTER! *bows*
Baldur89 Featured By Owner Aug 17, 2009
Very glossy, I think the patterns on the armour came out a little bad because they look photoshopped. Not something many might see but I've seen many mediocre artists do that to create a sort of emboss and that truly isn't your quality.

Something giving you hardships, perhaps?

If I'd work on it further i'd add grime and rust to take the focus away from the generic pattern shapes I just mentioned
nebezial Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2009
problem with this is that youre seeing it waay too large, these things are for comics and end up printing about 25 percent larger than the small preview here. and then it looks badass, i allways use bevell emboss filter. and btw personally i allways said one thing. i use photoshop, im not trying to simulate painterly techniques like oil and guache or aquarell... i can do those in real world,

as far as grime and rust go, guy is an elite guard, constantly at the palace, and he takes care of his armor. later in the story it will get dirty , it will get damaged, it will get covered with blood, but this is a character sheet, and as such represents the base

i understand where youre coming from, and patterns on the armor are eye food, most of them wont be recognisable in print but will maximise the diversity of the surface texture and shading givin it a really cool effect in print, i klnow cause we tried them out
Baldur89 Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2009
I see, so the main character's going to be part of a bigger picture where you'll also downsize him.

I didn't know you were more picky when it came to using filters in Photoshop, the pictures i've watched of you have mainly been handdrawn with very few "artificial" filter effects. I'm now curious to watch more of your old works to research the technique more detailedly.

When you mentioned the minimizing I do that as well. When decreasing the size they become more ambient texture features.

He's a sparhawk character then? The main character in the Elenian had a similar position, thugh what i've learned from him is that maintaining an armorpiece is hard longterm. That's why I brought the rust and grime up.

Yaddi daddi dah. Sorry for nitpicking, mate
nebezial Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2009
hey, nitpicking is good, often it results with improvements, so keep it up mate, and if u wanna see more applications of bevell technique i use it for dragonscales and witchblade armor too, ull find examples ofd that in my gallery :)
