among the races inhabiting the world of ravine sardaheim and shivas represent the two ends of a scale of power

what many consider to be descendants of one dragonbrood race , now are two races of opposing innate abilities

sardaheims formed a powerful empire of magic in the north and are an unopposed force living their lives by old laws set by the dragonfather mergarand they avoid fight in any ways but understand the essence of all magic, their kingdom is located over the bane of old days, the infinite abyss, ravine from which dragonfather mergarand released magic into the world.

sardaheims are natural wielders of magis which means they require no staves or any weapons with engraved barans spiral which is the key to all spellcasting

this does not mean they don't recognize the enhancing and focusing power of barans spiral, they were the first ones to implement it into mage towers which is a tradition that spread all over ravine. from military standpoint they are well equipped for war not only by their natural spellcasting abilities but also by use of mighty beasts that carry transporting towers and giant spikes engraved with barans spiral in order to enhance their spellcasting

shivas represent the other end of the spectrum, in essence shivas are the ultimate warriors, a young shivas is trained for 20 years , in that time he must earn his 4 swords, and then he is eligible to train in the chasm, a pit of absolute darkness inhabited with aggresive creatures with innate magic abilities, this is where they learn their innate ability to see magic weave , or perish

this ability has marked them as doom of mages, they are actually capable of separating magic weave from distance and stop a spell from being formed

another curiosity about them is that the higher rank they are the less armor they wear, and a high ranking shivas warrior can take on hundreds of opponents at the same time

shivas are essentially a mercenary nation providing their services and loyalties per contract

a curious tidbit of their history shows their prowess in battle, not just as powerful warriors but as clever strategists

vadek mel , general of a small unit assigned to a contractor in the southern nations stopped an entire army with 12 new fledglings by having them remove all their armor and bravely stand on the field of battle, enemies were terrified by the mere thought they were facing unarmored shivas masters that they retreated
