My cat paw painted an abstract piece yesterday that made me hang my head in shame. Too bad it's on the new art studio sheetrock and doomed to be plastered and painted over. Animals are constantly breaking our (mis)conception of human superiority.
Zoo keepers have figured out some time ago that elephants enjoy painting but watching not one but several elephants (although we only actually see two paintings) create recognizable images is rather amazing. They seem to understand color as well which is interesting as Im not sure if elephants are color blind or not as many animals are. I do wonder if the elephants have been trained to copy a singular piece of simple art or not but even if that is the case its still a remarkable feat in and of itself. Pretty outstanding and it definitely gets you to wondering about the level of intelligence and self awareness these giants have.
Just so I'm clear, was the elephant painting a picture of an elephant or painting on another elephant? ...OR... (double bonus) painting a picture of an elephant on another elephant? How meta! Can elephant tattoo artists be far behind!!!
